Stop calling everything AI
Ranting about how labelling everything 'AI' will only help the slop-generators.
Who is 'me'?
I am Thorsten and I currently live in Vienna, Austria. I have many hobbies and occupations, some of my friends say way too many. This site is supposed to be an outlet for sharing things that I enjoy, whether I have created them myself or just want to talk about what others have made, outside of the control of the tech companies who are controlling the internet nowadays.
In doing so, I am trying to follow the principles of the IndieWeb. The CMS for this website was developed by myself for myself, but anyone can use the code if they dare. Here's the repo on Codeberg.
Why do this?
The short version is: the internet is a very toxic place, mostly because a handful of companies want to make a handful of people richer than god and are happy to destroy everything beautiful in the world to get there. Here's a slightly longer version.
What to expect here?
As mentioned, I have many things that capture my attention. Some are little side-projects, some are serious, some are extremely silly, like my jobs. For most of them, I surf on random waves of motivation until I get distracted by something new. I'm not going into this with a grand content strategy. This makes it impossible for me to say what will really end up here and in which order. But I can assess some probabilities.
Here are things that I like and that I might end up sharing or talking about: learning new skills, photography, coding, game development, my dog, traveling, Norway and learning Norwegian, history and museums, living history and reenactment, larp, computer games, astronomy and sci-fi.
Here are things that I dislike and that I might end up randomly ranting about: capitalism and living in late-stage capitalism, generative AI, tech-oligarchs, fascism and fascists, surveillance, climate-change denial, anti-intellectualism, hypocrisy and lack of integrity.
Currently, I'm not planning any extensive interactive features. This site is about me and you're free to disagree with me. But you'll have to host that opinion somewhere else, sorry.
